Buckeye Diving School
Presents
2009 U/W Pumpkin Carving Results

Buckeye Diving School's U/W Carving Crew

October 4th 2009 was a blustery day at White Star Quarry but the 6th annual U/W pumpkin carving contest went down with incredible results! The wind was a bit chilly but the water was a balmy 66 degrees and some brave/crazy contestants dove in 3mm wetsuits (I say crazy). Fun was had by all and good memories were taken home by everyone!

A Blustery Day Thank you for all the support of Buckeye Diving School's customers and our fabulous staff for participating and assisting with all the details.

How the day went down!

Renee Setting up her "NEW DIVE GEAR" preparing for the plunge!

Renee and her new gear preparing for the plung

Master knife sharpener Phil Croy hones his blade for battle with the fierce man eating gourd they call the pumpkin!

make it extra sharp

Now some people get into cleaning their gourd but this is a bit excessive, don't you think? Matt Zemla preparing his plump pumpkin for a hacking!

Is it really that fun?

Hector Gonzalez entering the water, see how much fun this is!

Buckeye's 2009 Pumpkin Carving Contestants

Hey look we had the T-shirts done on time this year! See there is a first for everything!

Buckeye's 2009 Pumpkin Carving Contestants

Here are the results from the contest and some of the pumpkins!

1st Place was Bill Dunman III and his sea turtle, that is a turtle right? Bill was also our winner in 2005! Nice turtle, come here often?

2nd Place was Jennifer Croy with a bony fish. Determined from last years defeat Jennifer was not taking any chances this year! Here fishy fishy!

3rd Place went to Ben Hendrick for the Mr. Crabs! You just gotta love how fun this one is! Sponge Bob you're messin with me money!

4rd Place was the illustrious Sean Patrick making his 2009 debut at the quarry with a stunning display of local flora and fauna to accent his octopus! Octopus Quarrius

Runner up with some kind of pumpkin inside a pumpkin was Brian Gallo! I still can't see it but.... the other judge thought this was the bee's knees! Maybe if I turn it sideways?

We also have an award for the carving gone wrong. Its not easy using a dive knife underwater to carve a pumpkin! This was the most difficult year to pick but someone had to get it! This year's "PUMPKIN GONE WRONG" award went to Howard Jackson! Nicely done! Its not that bad, really!

Personally my son would have given this one first place based on his love for the "Jack the pumpkin king"! Phil Croy did and honorable job! A sharp knife makes a difference! Jack the pumpkin king

Miss Renee had an excellent pumpkin with use of the stem for a nose. Unfortunately we did not get the hat in the picture so image this gourd with a Daniel Boone raccoon hat on! Daniel Boone hat less!

I thought this one looked like a Slee Stack from Land of the Lost! Nice job Joel! Slee Stack

Hector was our last man in and out of the water but he still got his pumpkin done! By the way nice wetsuit! I like the flames behind the eyes

Matt nice pumpkin but we are still in awe of your pumpkin cleaning skills! Nice Gourd

Last but never least was our good friend Tharon with his proud gourd! All art is an expression of one's inner emotions
