Congratulations, you have completed the first portion of your scuba diving classes, now all you have to do is complete your open water dives to finalize your SSI scuba certification. This half of the certification process will put everything you have learned in class and the pool session together into a practical application. You will learn new and exciting skills during these dives too!

The open water dive class is taught over a 2-day period. Day one will consist of 1 snorkel dive and 2 scuba dives. Day two will consist of 2 scuba dives and will complete your scuba certification. These classes generally last 6 hours each day, so be prepared to have a good time. Classes will begin at 9:00am on both days and wrap up around 2-3pm. Open water classes will be held rain or shine. Occasionally there are changes in class start times. You will be notified of any changes by the Buckeye staff.

For open water classes we usually use Whitestar quarry, which is set up especially for open water students. Whitestar is approximately a 1:45 minute ride from the dive shop, and is easily accessible from the turnpike. The quarry is very close to Fremont, Ohio and there are many hotels and campgrounds near by. Some students make a weekend holiday of the classes and get a hotel room or use the campgrounds across the street from the quarry. Another option is to commute from home each day. Either way, you will receive a detailed map of how to get to Whitestar when you pick up your rental gear for the open water classes. We are also happy to supply a list of local hotels, some of which are pet friendly, upon request.
